I designed a logo for my friends physical therapy practice. She works with kids, so we decided to make it fun  =]

commission

I was commissioned to create a ginormous (5 feet by 2 feet) painting. I looked at art nouveau patterns and japanese block prints for inspiration. I love commissions! I’ll be working on a couple more this summer…

bologna book fair

I went to Europe for 2 and a half weeks, kinda for business, kinda for vacation. I attended the Bologna Book Fair, and talked to a variety of publishers. There were so many books and talks, huge is really an understatement. I also gave a talk to illustration students from SACI, the art school in Florence where I studied abroad. Overall, it was pretty awesome and I surprisingly remembered some Italian. :]

And I finally had an excuse to relax and use my sketchbook for fun:

Sante Natural poster

Below is a poster I created for Sante Natural, an amazing organization building health clinics in Sengal. Since the images are about cleanliness (and I also wanted the poster to be as universal as possible), I decided to create more simplified illustrations for this project. snow white and the seven dwarves gone wrong

A couple of weeks ago, I attended the Illustrators Intensive at the SCBWI conference. For a workshop led by Lisa Desimini, the assignment was to illustrate a birthday party scene with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. We were encouraged to venture away from Disney’s version of Snow White and also to make the piece from the perspetive of one dwarf in particular. I couldn’t resist choosing Grumpy…
